But Saturday, it dawned on me that I wasn’t being entirely accurate. Jesus didn’t really die on the cross. Jesus was killed on a cross. Someone dying sounds peaceful. But the death of Jesus wasn’t peaceful. He allowed himself to be murdered. He didn’t just die…He was killed on a Roman cross.
That’s an important distinction to understand and there is something very powerful in knowing that Jesus just didn’t die by accident. It wasn’t a tragic sequence of events that was completely unforeseen. It was a plan. And Jesus willingly laid His life down. That’s a moving reality to meditate on.
