I never in my wildest dreams thought I would ever have two posts that had anything to do with the Kansas City Royals, but after yesterday’s post, I had to follow up with a quote that was in the same ESPN article about their manager Trey Hillman. His quote:
“I was never part of the Royals’ system before six months ago,” Hillman says, “but from the day I was hired as manager, I will fight tooth and nail to do everything I can for the reputation of this organization.
I think we’ll make this part of the membership covenant at Eternity. Every person who becomes a member shall be required to live by this statement and live it out not just for the reputation of Eternity, but more importantly, for the reputation and glory of God!
Do you see Christians with this kind of attitude about their savior and King? Do you see churches with this sort of determined outlook about the kingdom of God? Would you say that “fighting tooth and nail for the reputation of Jesus” would be a good representation of your existence?
It’s so funny that a guy can get that fired up about a lousy baseball team that hasn’t had a winning season since I think Jesus was born (sorry Royals fans, you know it’s true) but we’ve been rescued from the depths of hell, Jesus died in our place, took our sins aways, imputed His righteousness to us, sits at the right hand of God and we will reign with Him forevermore and what you see A TON OF in the world today is Christians fighting tooth and nail to DESTROY the reputation of Jesus!
It ought not be so. We should be locked in a battle with sin. We should be engaged in all out warfare for the holiness and preservation of not only our own soul but for the souls of our cities and communities. We should not rest, nor cease until either the battle is won by Jesus coming again or until Jesus takes us out of the battle and brings us home.
Are we truly seeking to do EVERYTHING, by God’s grace and flowing out of His power within us, we can for the reputation and hallowing of the name of Jesus here on Earth?
Baseball matters not. Eternity means everything.

I agree with you 100% on this…I just hope people realize that sometimes fighting tooth and nail for the reputation of Jesus means using a calm voice and soothing words rather than fire and brimstone.
Jason,
Couldn’t agree more. Fighting can take many different shapes and forms. A better word and one that Scripture uses more frequently is strive. Are we striving tooth and nail? Just doesn’t have the same ring to it
