Great things are happening for Eternity right now and there’s a lot going on but I haven’t had a real good opportunity to sit down and blog through anything tremendously spiritual.

However, as I spent time with my wife’s family yesterday, an interesting conversation that lasted for over an hour sprung up and that is how to drastically improve your gas mileage. With prices nearing $4.00/gallon and showing no signs of dropping off, I decided to investigate the claims of my father in law and it turns out he was right. I hate that.

Basically, you can get 5% - 33% better gas mileage (get this), just by driving the speed limit. Weird I know, but following laws might actually have some real tangible benefit. So, I decided to test this out on two fresh tanks of gas and to see what kind of mileage increase I might see. If this pans out, the math might look something like this:

Normal Marc Driving
Gas Tank Capacity (in gallons): 14
Price Per Gallon: $3.75
Price Per Tank: $52.50
Miles Per Tank (25 Miles Per Gallon): 350
Cost Per Mile: $.15 cents / mile

Experimental Marc Driving
Gas Tank Capacity (in gallons): 14
Price Per Gallon: $3.75
Price Per Tank: $52.50
Miles Per Tank (33 Miles Per Gallon [25*1.33]): 460
Cost Per Mile: $.11 cents / mile

So, essentially if this is correct, I’ll save on average about $14 per tank of gas because I’ll be getting roughly 100 more miles out of each tank. At 4 tanks per month that’s $56. Take that and multiply it by 12 months and you arrive at an estimated grand savings of about $650 / year and all that simply because you follow the speed limit and are cautious about your driving habits.

I’m interested to see if this works. Spiritual blogging will return shortly, just thought I’d mix it up a bit.
