- I shall rise from the dead…I shall see the Son Of God, the Sun of Glory, and sine myself as that sun shines.  I shall be united to the Ancient of Days, to God Himself, who had no morning, never began…No man ever saw God and lived.  And yet, I shall not live till I see God; and when I have seen Him, I shall never die. - John Donne

Right now, some of my devotional reading is coming from Randy Alcorn’s book Heaven, and as I read this quote which starts off Chapter 17, it really struck me.  The part that won’t let go of me is the line “I shall not live till I see God“…

I wonder how many Christians really believe that.  I wonder how many people actually process that.  That life really doesn’t begin until we see God.  And in this life, it truly doesn’t begin until we’ve encountered God and He is our tresure and ultimate satisfaction.

We may amuse ourselves with things, and stuff, and alike.  We may amuse ourselves with things such as sex, power, and fame.  But in the end, we shall not live truly until we see God.

That’s an amazing thought.  It’s an amazing truth.  It’s an amazing reality.  I look back over 31 years and see times in my life that I really thought I was living.  But they pale in comparison and aren’t even worth mentioning in the same breath as those quiet moments of solitude in a car, my office, my back porch, or wherever I was where I saw God (if only a glimpse through Scripture, prayer, or worship).

I long to live in such a way, each and every day, that life is not being lived unless I am seeing God.  Seeing Him at work in me.  Seeing Him at work in my family.  Seeing Him at work in my city.  Seeing Him at work in Eternity.  Seeing Him at work in others.  Seeing Him at work in creation.  Seeing Him at work in the minute details of life.

I want to see God.
