You know, I’ve said many times that if you are ever curious about the human race and feel like you may be out of touch with the culture in which you live, the best place to visit is Wal-Mart.

I’ve written about it before, but there’s no greater pastime than to go to Wal-Mart, grab you a coke and M&M’s and simply walk around the store to watch people. Today, I saw what had to be a 70 year old man walking through the aisle with a case of Busch beer and a pack of underwear. And my immediate thought was: That just don’t go together.

And as I waited on an oil change, and thought about my sermon for this weekend, there was one more pair of things that came to mind that didn’t go together: Christian and ungrateful.

I’m learning this more and more and God is really dealing with me on this. You’ve met those people who never say thank you. Who never show affection. Who never show gratitude. Who never express any emotion other than disapproval.

But boy they are proud to call themselves a Christian. My words to people like that are: “Sorry, don’t work that way”. If you even remotely understood the Gospel and if it was having any effect in your life, ungratefulness would not be something that would describe you.

We have been forgiven more than we will ever discover in this lifetime. If we knew just how the great the gift of grace we received was, thankfulness would mark our lives.

A Christian who is ungrateful looks just as weird and out of place as Busch beer and underwear. Don’t wait until your 70 to figure that out.
