Yesterday was a great day at Eternity as we looked at the topic of “What Is The Church?” It’s always a helpful thing to know that if you’re going to start one, what is it exactly that we are talking about…

The bottom line question that I asked last night and I think everyone who is a part of the local church needs to ask, whether it’s an established church or a church plant is:

Do I really want to be here?

And if you don’t? Why not?

  • Is there sin you need to repent of?
  • Do you have a deficient view of the church?
  • Do you not see the church as important?
  • Are there relationships that you need to seek restoration in?
  • Are you legalistically attending church in hopes that somehow your church attendance will save you?
  • Do you think Jesus is impressed with your half-hearted, joyless, attendance?

Whatever the situation may be, we need to understand the priority and importance of both the universal church and the local church. Christ died for it. It’s messy, but it’s beautiful…

And if we can get that right from the outset at Eternity, the future for this church plant looks very solid indeed. I’m amazed, humbled, excited, and joyful over the people that God has brought to be a part of this local expression of the universal church. The coming months and years are going to be awesome.
